SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER
COMMERCIAL PROJECT PORTFOLIO
Location: Havant or Glasgow
Salary: SSE11, £55k - £73k depending on skills and experience plus bonus and excellent benefits
Permanent full-time hours
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Project Manager to join SSE's Commercial Project Portfolio team, as we approach our proposed merger. Our diverse portfolio of projects covers business separation and merger-related projects, new sales partnerships and channels, strategic commercial projects, high-profile regulatory projects, and innovative new products spanning energy, insurance and telecoms. Our cross-functional team of Programme Managers, Project Managers, Business Change Specialists and PMO Leads, based in Havant and Glasgow, collaborates to deliver the major complex cross-functional changes across Retail.
As a Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery across a number of complex, fast-paced projects. You will work with a Director-level sponsor and stakeholders across groups including Digital, IT, Pricing, Customer Service, Sales & Marketing, and Regulatory. You will work with your project team and executive steering group to maintain the right balance of controlling for time, cost and quality, while ensuring that business strategy, policy and standards are adhered to. You’ll recognise where remedial action is required and make it happen.
Your Skills and Experience
To be successful, you bring many years of experience in project delivery of challenging business and system changes, with project management certification such as Prince2 or PMP. Experience of differing project development lifecycles and methodologies is essential.
You thrive in a particularly fast paced, dynamic and pressurised environment. You are a self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision, and comfortable taking on a high degree of responsibility.
Key to this role is a knack for collaborating diplomatically across a large organisation to quickly assess what’s required, then influencing, inspiring, and challenging the status quo to deliver – with creative solutions to challenges and changes along the way. All this is backed by strong communication skills, attention to detail on project controls, and the ability to balance customer orientation with commercial drivers and operational imperatives.
Managing other project managers as well as your project team will form a large part of your role, so you bring strong experience of people development and performance management. You will have the ability to provide leadership, focus and direction for the project team, with the ability to establish and maintain highly effective relationships across SSE.
In return we offer a benefits package which includes an excellent pension scheme, share plans, generous leave entitlement (with an option to purchase additional leave), discounted energy, phone and broadband, one day paid volunteering, plus a host of other lifestyle benefits including flexible working.
